Imagine that you have been hired to be the general manager of a random NFL team. Assume every NFL team has the same roster. Everything is exactly the same. Each team has an average quarterback, an average play caller, an average head coach and an average defense.

We are not considering the externalities that one player can’t control. (surrounding roster, coaching, scheme, playcalling, team culture, team chemistry, etc.)

Average everything.

If there was a draft of players, and you (the GM) could add any football player to that team, with your goal being to win a game next week; who would you draft?

Think about it.

Okay.

If your answer is anything other than Patrick Mahomes, you’re mistaken.

It’s simple.

I won’t cite a single statistic. I won’t cite any game film. I don’t want to get lost in the weeds. I’m trying to keep my head above water.

Anyone who watches football knows that Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the world.

I don’t care what the Chiefs record is, I don’t care what playoff seed they will finish with.

I don’t care what his stats are.

It’s sitting right on top of our noses and we can’t seem to see it.

The MVP has been way overthought

Adding Patrick Mahomes to your team automatically makes that team better more so than any other player.

It’s Mahomes, and it’s not close.

K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid)

For those saying that Tyreek or Christian Mccaffery should win the MVP and that it’s stupid and a rigged award.

Quarterback is *by far and away* the most important position in the NFL.

Voting for anyone besides a quarterback in a value competition would be ludicrous.

Instead, why not just have the best player at each position?

I propose the following awards structure:

MVP

Defensive Player of the Year

Offensive Player of the Year

Best QB

Best RB

Best WR

Best TE

Best Tackle

Best Interior Offensive Lineman

***Then Defense***

Best Cornerback

Best Safety

Best Off-Ball Linebacker

Best Edge Rusher

Best DT

***Special Teams***

Best Kicker

Best Punter

  • *As well as*** m

Best Offensive Unit- 49ers this year

Best Defensive Unit

Best Special Teams Unit

Offensive Rookie of the Year

Defensive Rookie of the Year

Man of the Year

Most Improved Player

Unexpected Breakout- (Puka Nacua this year)

via AP News

Comeback Player of the Year- (Joe Flacco this year)

via Pittsburgh Post Gazette

And then for Damar Hamlin the honorary Comeback Player of the year. Just give out two awards, who fucking cares.
